Welcome Dr. Xiao-Teng Cai!
Dr. Xiao-teng Cai joined the M. Chen lab as a postdoctoral fellow. Xiao-teng obtained his Ph.D. from University of Science and Technology of China, where he worked with Prof. Chengbin Xiang on stress responses in Arabidopsis. Xiao-teng will investigate the mechanism of subnuclear reorganization by light signaling. Welcome Xiao-teng!

Andrew’s paper on the mechanism for dual-targeting HEMERA to plastids and the nucleus has been published in Plant Physiology.
Andrew Nevarez and Yongjian Qiu published their report in Plant Physiology on the mechanism of dual-targeting of HEMERA/pTAC12 to plastids and the nucleus. Their study suggests that the nuclear localization of HEMERA is mediated by a plastid-to-nucleus protein translocation mechanism - HEMERA is localized to plastids first before relocated to the nucleus. A similar mechanism was [...]

M. Chen lab received funds from NIH for purchasing a new confocal microscope for the UCR Imaging Core.
M. Chen lab received $155,000 supplemental funds from NIGMS to contribute to the purchase of a state-of-the-art Zeiss LSM880-Airyscan confocal microscope for the UCR Imaging Core. We deeply appreciate the support from NIGMS. This is a joint grant application with two other NIGMS-supported PIs, Xuemei Chen and Zhenbiao Yang. Many thanks to the support from Vice [...]
M. Chen lab received a NIH award to investigate the function of photobodies.
M. Chen lab was awarded a 4-yr grant to investigate the function of photobodies in plant light signaling from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. We appreciate the continuing support from NIGMS.

Welcome Keunhwa!
M. Chen lab welcomes a new member, Dr. Keunhwa Kim. Keunhwa received extensive training in plant photobiology in his PhD and postdoctoral work with Dr. Giltsu Choi at KAIST in Korea, he joins the lab as an Assistant Specialist. Keunhwa will contribute to our efforts in understanding the function of photobody biogenesis in light signaling.
